1666: Amsterdam Length — How Long to Beat
Quick answer
Prologue: 25–40 minutes. Early Access build: unknown.
That second answer is unsatisfying, and it is also the only honest one available right now. Here is why.
The Prologue
The free Prologue is a self-contained chapter covering Noa’s Commencement. Most players report finishing in about half an hour. It is not a timed slice of the full game — it is a separate short piece, so its length tells you nothing about the length of what launches on August 25.
If you are only checking hardware performance, ten minutes is enough.
Why there is no full-game figure
Early Access opened August 25, 2026. Before that date, nobody outside Panache Digital Games had played the paid build. Any completion time published earlier than that was either measuring the Prologue or estimating from trailers.
There is a second complication specific to Early Access: the game is unfinished by design. Content gets added over the Early Access period, so “how long to beat” is a moving number rather than a fixed one. A figure measured in the launch build will not describe the build six months later.
What the game’s design suggests
Not a runtime, but a pace. The day/night investigation loop rewards slow, thorough play — conversations, documents, observation — and the Prologue notably does not hurry you. Panache’s previous game, Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, was famously unhurried and unhelpful by design.
Two people can therefore come away from this game with very different playtimes depending on how much they engage with investigation rather than pushing toward objectives. That is a feature of the design, not a flaw in the measurement.
Is it worth it?
Impossible to answer for you before reviews of the actual Early Access build exist — but there are three concrete things you can check today, and each is cheaper than a refund:
- Check the specs. Hardware ray tracing is mandatory. This is the single most common reason someone buys and cannot play.
- Play the free Prologue. Half an hour tells you whether the tone and pace suit you.
- Understand what Early Access means here. The studio is self-publishing and funding completion this way. You are buying an unfinished game with no announced 1.0 date.
We will add measured playtimes once the Early Access build has been played, with the date attached.
Thanks for the feedback!
